  Swan Neck Hollowing Tools ($18, $23, $28)

  I offer 3 sizes of generic swans neck tools for hollowing.  The smallest (mini) has a ¼” shank and 7” handle. It is 13” long overall.  The medium tool has a 3/8” shank and 13” handle (22” long overall).  The large tool has a ½” shank, and 14” handle and is 26” long overall.   All of the swans neck tools have hardened carbon steel cutters, fastened with a hardened button head screw.  The screw attachment means allows the cutter angle to be adjusted.  The cutter gives long life if hand sharpened with a stone (not a power grinder).  Replacement/extra cutters are nominally priced.

  Flat Shank Hollowing Tools ($27, $38)

  Are available in two sizes.  The small tool has a 3/8” by ¾” cold rolled steel shank with a ¼” square M2 tool steel cutter securely clamped in place.  The clamp allows easy adjustment of the cutter angle and projection.  It comes with a 13” handle.   The shank is 8” long. The larger tool has a ½” by 1” steel shank with a similar, but heavier clamp assembly and 3/8” square M2 cutter.   The handle on this tool is 16” long and the shank is 10” long.  This is a very heavy tool for large work. Both of these tools can be used inverted and both ends of the cutter can be used.  These cutters are supplied with one end ground to a round nose design but are easily reground and resharpened.   These cutters are standard machine tool bits that can be obtained locally or here at nominal cost.   These tools are intended for internal boring but I think they get a lot of use for heavy external work also.

  Straight Shank Boring Tools ($25, $30)

  These are primarily for deep boring but the replaceable bit design allows economical grinding of the bit for custom and detail work.  The M2 tool steel bit is secured with set screws to allow easy removal and use of both ends of the cutter with different cutter shapes if desired.  The straight shank tool uses a 1/4” round cutter.  A variation of this tool is available with a smaller bit that allows either straight or at an angle for side wall cutting. Both tools have a 12” handle and ½” diameter 8” long shank. 

• Round Shank Scrapers (Email for Quote)

  Available on special order are round shank scrapers.  These have tool steel shanks are designed for cutting metals and are very durable in woodworking use.  I normally grind the shank in a round nose negative rake pattern.  The round shank allows rotating the shank for a shear cut.
